Where is Popeye the Sailor from?
I've been trying to explain the mispronunciation of lyrics in the song ("finish" pronounced "fin-itch") by saying that Popeye is a New Yorker.
"I fights to the finish,
'cuz I eats my spinach.
I'm Popeye the Sailor Man!"
from Wikipedia: In addition to a gravelly voice and a casual attitude towards grammar, Popeye is known for having an apparent speech impediment (a common character-distinguishing device in early cartoons), which either comes naturally or is caused by the ever-present pipe in his mouth. Among other things, he has problems enunciating a trailing "t"; thus, "fist" becomes "fisk" (as sung in his theme song, which makes it conveniently rhyme with "risk") and "infant" becomes "infink." This speech impediment even found its way into some of the titles of the cartoons.
He’s from Santa Monica, California and was born inside a typhoon, which probably why he has that speech impediment. Being born inside a typhoon can’t be healthy for a baby.
Ah well, he’s strong to the finitch cause he eats his spinach, his popeye the sailor man. 
Since he came onto the thimble theater stage (which is the original cartoon strip that he took over, and of it’s original characters only Olive Oyl is left), I’m assuming he now resides somewhere in New York, as that is where Olive Oyl is from. Here’s another fun tidbit Wimpy, popeyes hamburger loving friend’s IQ is 326.
He’s some more interesting facts about him he’s 5′6" and weighs 156 pounds. He has an 8" neck and has a spinach capacity of 36 tons.
According to the official site, Popeye is 34 years old and was born in a typhoon off Santa Monica, California.
