What would happen if you stuck your finger in the end of a gun while shooting it?
My friend and I are watching Popeye, and Olive Oyle just tried to stick her finger in the end of a machine gun to stop Brutus from firing it at Popeye, and we were curious, what would happen in RL if she did that?
well, obviously something bad would happen to your finger, but do you think your finger would get shot clean off, or would it like hit your hand on the way out...? We're wondering the actual physics of it all...

Your finger and your face would be in bad shape…….
it would shoot though the finger an most likely keep going.
The bullet would have enough force to actually push her finger right through the back of her hand. She would lose her finger, and have a giant hole in her hand.
the finger in the barrel would disappear as well as part of the hand it was attached to. and the person who stupidly stuck their finger in the barrel would bleed to death before help arrives. and the shooter of the gun would probably get really sick and vomit from the gore caused by the idiot’s hand/finger that was stuck in the gun barrel.
a finger is hardly sufficient enough barrel obstruction to stop a gun from firing properly.
the part of the finger actually in the barrel would be pulverized to a type of meat-jam, then the bullet would enter the finger or hand and travel through that. Depending on where your arm is, it would punch out the arm someplace.
1. You’ll get blood all over the end of the gun
2. You will lose your finger
3. It will hurt like all get out
4. You could die
Of course, all of this is moot if you are Popeye.

Well, I think I can safely say that you won’t have a finger/hand anymore… that and the fact that if you stuck your finger in the end of a gun. That person holding/wielding the gun is going to be very angry that you OP’d (over pressured) the gun by sticking your finger in the barrel, and most likely beat you to death with the stock and action when they get all of the metal shards out of their skin/face.
Mythbusters tested this once. They found that the gun would fire, the person with their finger in the muzzle would lose their finger (and most likely their hand), and the gun would be either undamaged or the gun barrel would only slightly balloon depending on how solid the finger was stuck in the barrel.
the gun wont blow up unless you think your finger can withstand a higher pressure than the barrel

It would destroy her finger and hand. Cartoons and hollywood do a lot of silly things for laughs, but 99% of them are untrue. Never play with a firearm and never try any of the things you see on TV or in the movies.

In reality, an obstruction in the barrel would cause it to explode on the first shot. The bullet might not even make it to your finger due to the pressure being built up in front of it.
Assuming you were standing in front of the gun. . .
The bullet, would disintegrate the finger, blow apart the knuckle, pass through the hand, shatter the wrist, travel along the ulna (forearm bone), and finally destroy the elbow as it exits. If you did not lose the arm in surgery, you certainly would never use it again.

Candy would start raining from the sky and birds would land on your shouldur and sing in your ear. Kim jong il would become a friendly teddy bear and would give free hugs to all the poor north korean kids.
