What actor should play Popeye in a new movie?
In the early 1980s director Robert Altman gave a live action Popeye movie. It starred Robin Williams as every bodies favorite spinach eating sailor. This was Robin Williams' very first movie role. It also featured Shelley Duvall as Olive Oyl, Paul Smith as Bluto, Paul Dooley as Wimpy and Ray Walston as Poopdeck Pappy. That was then, what about now? Who do you think would be good casting choices in a big screen remake to bring Popeye and his world back to life again?
Jim Carrey. I think he could bring the rubberfaced zest to it that Williams couldn’t, quite. And I’d like to see him do it against an animated world… like the plane tires in that ep of "Amazing Stories". Kinda the opposite of Roger Rabbit. Real people, fake world. Like that Angelina Jolie movie with the flying robots and hovering aircraft carrier. "Fleisherland", so to speak.
While I’m dreaming, I’d love to see Fleisher’s "Dancing’ On the Moon" rechanneled for 3D the way that "Nightmare Before Christmas" was. It’s only a few minutes long and incredible work was done to make the 2D world obviously a representation of a 3D one.
MegN afoFXXX!
My favorite actor is Sean William Scott.
Randy Couture
It has to be a tough guy who can be silly at the same time. He would also need acting skills, so I would say Vin Diesel.
Rowan Atkinson. Same features.
Simon Pegg as Popeye, who else?
