Is Popeye the first animated superhero?

was watching the documentary in his first dvd collection and they said he was the very first and even before superman, which is true. Now granted he usually just saved olive oil is he still considered by most to be the first animated superhero? Or at least hero...

I'm looking for a movie. It has the woman that plays on The Shining and as olive oil in popeye. In this particular movie. I think her husband was abusing her, and in a certain screen she was taking a swim in a pond and an alligator was in it and she didn't know about it, but her husband saw it, and when she did notice it she was so terrified and all he did was take pictures of her being scared.

So, I’m an avid cartoon watcher. There are a lot of hidden stories in them. What’s the story behind Popeye?

I heard bits and pieces about the famous "Popeye" cartoon being based on a time when America was fighting with another country over olive oil, and the only we could defend ourselves is if we stacked up our money and bought whatever we needed to defend ourselves. In the cartoon, Popeye (America) was at a constant tug of war with Bluto (the other country) in order to win over the heart of Olive Oyl. He defended himself by eating a can of spinach and gaining strength (power).

I have absolutely no idea if this story is true. But i've heard it more than once. I forgot the name of the "other country" by the way. Does this sound familiar to anyone?
