Seriously. Disney has gone from Mickey Mouse to Hannah Montana. Mickey Mouse has been reduced to a half hour spot on weekday mornings for little kids. Pretty soon he will be completely erased from Disney. They never even air anything even CLOSE to the old cartoons. At least Cartoon Network and CW11 are actually keeping Tom & Jerry alive, but Disney just goes with whatever will make them money.
This doesn't just go for Disney. Nickelodeon, too. I knew they'd be going downhill the second Rugrats turned into "Rugrats: All Grown Up". I used to love Rugrats.
Then of course the Animaniacs... They've been taken off TV for a while. Kids have never even HEARD of Popeye... And Bugs Bunny hasn't had an encounter with Elmer Fudd for what seems like forever.
What the hell is going on? Is this what Disney would have wanted to happen to his creation?
Joe B, you cannot outgrow good cartoons. A good cartoon is appealing to everybody, not just 4 year olds.
Yes, they have their own channels on cable, but they have gotten rid of them on their primary networks which are actually known. The primary networks do not even advertise the secondary ones, as if they are embarrassed by them.
I am not saying Disney was a good man. I am saying that he, along with other people, were visionaries. They were pioneers in the world of cartoons, and nobody has cleared the bar they had set. And as for Nickelodeon having the best cartoons in history... Only three modern Nickelodeon cartoons come to anybody's mind. Spongebob, Fairly Odd Parents, and Jimmy Neutron.

thank ya!
Or did he kill them back stage after the filming was over?
Most early cartoon characters have had continual enemies.
Popeye had the Sea Hag and Bluto.
Felix had The Professor and Master Cylinder.
Bugs had less dangerous enemies, but he had more: Yosemite Sam, the Gremlin, Marvin the Martian, Elmer Fudd, etc.
Rocky & Bullwinkle had Boris & Natasha.
All of these enemies became famous
Granted, Mickey was banned by the Nazi, Italian Fascists, and is not considered Kosher by some Islamic leaders, but none of his cartoon enemies came back on a regular basis.
Your thoughts on this important issue, and name your favorite cartoon enemies....ten points for showing appreciation of this aspect of culture...! Thanks!
chris h: We cats don't discriminate. But everybody knows that mice are vermin, and that they were put on the earth for us cats to drag into the house and play with in front of our owners when they're having visitors. Not prejudice; just fact. Meow.
