   If you know about Popeye, he was created for a strip called Thimble Theater, which was later renamed after him, by a man named E. C. Segar, who had a good fifteen-year run with him — then dropped dead. For most of his career, except in the movies, Popeye and the cast have been guided by Segar’s former assistant Bud Sagendorf, who died in 1994. Doing a search of those three names: Swee’ Pee, Elzie Crisler Segar or Bud Sagendorf, should get you some images of them.
