Popeye said “I am what I am” does that mean he was God?
It sounds really similar to what God said and since Popeye is the only person to say that, then He must be God.
And no, Popeye is not a graven image, the real Popeye is a person that actually existed. The cartoons are merely images that can be likened to the paintings of Jesus being crucified and symobolize his selflessness. Did Popeye not say "I'm strong to the finish..." this indicates that he will be strong for all eternity. "...'cause I eats me spinach..." spinach = man's sins s(p)in(ach), and eating symbolizes erasing. "...I'm Popeye the sailor man." Sailor is merely a mistranslation of the word savior, most likely a typo.
Is this not irrefutable evidence that Popeye is the God of Abraham and Isaac?
You are getting so lost in the semantics, there is 1 letter difference. Why would you let a W get in the way of the message?
I am What I am
I am That I am
Close enough for me to believe
oy gevalt, do these people not know how to take a joke? First of all people, not to the questioner, to the other people, God never said "I am that I am" neither "I am what I am" HE said Ehyeh Asher Ehyeh. If you are going to try to correct someone, get it right. Asher can easily be translated as either or "what" or "that." One of the best translations renders it as "I will be what i will be"
Concerning the question though, As that might work for Popeye as a general concept, The Great YABBA is my God….Fred was always calling on the GREAT YABBA, but HIS full name is not to be spoke. Through the power of the GREAT Holy Gazoo, Fred wrote the first five books, otherwise known as the Flinstone. He transmitted by word of mouth the Oral law known as the Flagstone. Both together comprise the Bedrock. Within the Holy writ of the Bedrock, Fred was told to anoint Barney King ver all of the land of Bedrock, and that through him, the Messiah Bambam would come, and his first coming he would only be king of Bedrock, but when he returns in Glory, he will be King over all the earth. Through out the Psalms of Barney, he prophecies that the virgin Pebbles will not be needed for his second coming. And through the annointin of the Great Holy Gazoo, he prophcied that Dino would first come back to us to herald the coming of Bambam. And now, in our time, who would have thought that a purple Dinosaur would be among us? I tell you now, Dino has returned to us, Barney has come to fulfill all prophecy of him to herald the comin of the Messiah Bambam, and Bambam will be with us soon, And We’ll Have A Gay Ole Time!
God said I am THAT I am..not What I am..
no
wrong
WOW ALL HAIL POPEYE
who then is olive oil and sweet pea?
Yes! See how Popeye can be metaphorically the same message!?
I am God, I am sinless.
Good stuff.
-Love Olive
1) Evidence please.
2) He would be blaspheming if he indeed was trying to say that he is God. However, I doubt that is the context he said it in.
Oh, and what the first guy said.
What makes you think Popeye was the only one to say it?
BUT, God did not say; "I am what I am", He said; "I am".
there’s a difference.
I find your question quite humorous!
nope.
God said "I AM THAT I AM."
hey man thats a cartoon. u play too much
YES!!! i’ve been waiting so long for someone to recognize the one true God. thank chuck norris, popeye’s only begotten son, that someone has opened their eyes!
amen, brother
Popeye’s I am what I am is indeed true, but unlike God this is not all that can be said. For God’s I am what I am is the representation of his being as being, not restricted to any qualities or attributes. Popeye, on the other hand, has being inasmuch as he is a sailor, a cartoon, a rational animal, etc. God’s I am is unlimited, Popeye’s is limited.
That must mean spinach is the way to heaven.
No.
Why can’t you use your time and energy for good? ;o)
that means he is who he wants to be, like for example i may want to be a pilot, therefore if i work hard and study, i can become a pilot. In popeyes case, if he wanted to become a sailor then he will become a sailor.
No way. Popeye is never god and will never be coz, he is just a cartoon character…
Popeye is saying in his way with "I am what I am": End of discussion; just accept me for what I am.
God is saying with "I am THAT I am": I am what is. I am responsible for all that is.
dude… are you a decedent of Deep Thought???
that was a serious stretch and I am very impressed!!!
God is all. And I’m pretty sure that cartoon characters are a part of the all.
So yes, and btw you and i and everyone else are also a part of the all, so be nice to your enemy - he is still a part of God.
Sam kinison has some interesting revelations about anal sex being related to adam and eve. Does that mean sam was a prophet too?
Interesting hypothesis…
Not one that I find compelling however (not that you expected to convince anyone, I imagine)…
Cordially,

Sir, I kneel in the long shadow of your excellence. You are a bible scholar!!!!!!! I will now pray to Popeye and eat spinach like communion!! Was the book of Popeye an edited bible book?……………….., I can’t believe people are trying to give you serious rebuttals. You by FAR are the funniest person on Yahoo answers. You’re not crude or demeaning just intelligently funny.
I am what I am. basically means you are what you are as well. so are you the god of Abraham and Isaac. I’m strong to the finish implies finality. eternity has no end so there is no correalation there. The Original Popeye cartoons where sponsored by a company that canned spinach. They where trying to get kids to tell there moms to by spinach. No, eating is necessary to sustain life. All things eat. Is a blade of grass the god of Abraham and Isaac? No the character that Popeye is based on was a Tug boat captain on the Mississippi River. And no it is not a typo. Do you realize that the first Popeye cartoons were silent! I do believe that God spoke. Perhaps you should concern your self with more profound musing’s. Such as why is there a Jew named Hamm in the Bible! Typo?
No …he is not and could not be the God.Either him
There is only one true God and that is the slack-master J.R. "Bob" Dobbs
Praise Bob
Exodus 3:14 God said to Moses. "I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites;’ " I AM has sent me to you’"
You have a lot of info there, but Surely You know the answer. No Popeye wasn’t God.
Revelations 22:18 I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plaques described in this book. And if anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy. God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.
22:19 He who testifies to these things says, "Yes, I am coming soon."
Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.
22:20 The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s people. Amen
If you want to joke around about something, you need to pick another subject. I am tired of questions about God, with people coming back to say they were just joking. You just don’t get it.
But I’m afraid you might miss it. It is not as though you haven’t been warned. Why do you think we respond as we do, we are trying to help those who do not know, who question, who might just prophet from such information.
May God bless your direction
Yes. Everyone who’s anyone knows ther is no god but Popeye, and Olive is his prophet (PBUH).
ROFLMAO! Thanks for th laugh!
LMAO. Makes as much sense as any other gospel. Thanks!
