My PS2 won't play certain DVD's?
I'm trying to watch "Heavy Metal" on my PS2 and when I put the disc in, it just sits there. Won't even spin. I tried "Heavy Metal 2000" and "Me, Myself, and Irene" and those didn't work either, so I thought my PS2 was finally taking a sh*t, but then I put in this "Popeye" DVD (the old cartoon) and it worked fine. So did "Escape from New York." So what's up with my PS2?
The discs are perfectly fine. No scratches, smudges, dirt, or anything. And I thought maybe it was the parental control thing but "Escape from New York" is rated R and it plays fine.
Keep in mind that it may not be your PS2. Have you checked to make sure that the discs that don’t work are not scratched or have finger prints. If they are clean, then it may be a laser allignment issue on your PS2. The only way to fix that is to send it into a store to have them fix it, or to get a manual on how to do it yourself. http://www.ps2parts.com/laser_adjustment.html There is a tutorial on how to do it. Hope this helps.
Additional Details: Ok, knowing that, then it sounds like the laser allignment. This is very common in X-Box’s PS1/2/3 and Wii’s and Gamecubes. The same with DVD drives. If the laser goes out of allignment, then you will get this sort of problem, where it will work sometimes with some things, and not work with others. I’d reccomend looking for an online guide that will show you how to dismantel your PS2 so you can tweak the laser, or, if you don’t want to risk breaking it, then taking it into a high end Eletronic store (Best Buy, Future Shop, and maybe Wal-Mart) and they will likely fix it for you. It may just be cheaper to buy a new PS2, as they are nearing the $120 mark. I’d expect fixing it to cost around $60-80, just as a guess.
