My brother and I are playing SCRABBLE and he used the word Jeep. Is this an acceptable word to use?
We know that the word Jeep, referring to the vehicle, is not acceptable. However, he is using it in the sense of Eugene the Jeep from the comic strip Popeye. I think that this is a proper name and should not be used. If there was a definition of Jeep, in terms of the creature, then I would accept it. Please cast your vote for who is right. THANK YOU EVERYONE!!!
Thank you Name Brand Matresses!!! That is exactly what we needed to know. Since the SCRABBLE Dictionary says that it's OK, then I will take this defeat with a humble attitude.
THANKS AGAIN EVERYONE!!!!
of course
yes
no, because it probably isn’t in the dictionary…if it is, then its right
Yes, according to the official Scrabble Dictionary
JEEP
jeep jeeps jeeping jeeped \ v -ED, -ING, -S to travel by a small type of motor vehicle
Yep, why not lol
Jeep is a proper noun not acceptable in scrabble.
You are correct. no jeep.
It’s not only a trademark, but it was slang derived from an acronym first.
It may be a common noun in the slangiest of slang dictionaries, but I doubt it.
Totally acceptable
..Jeep’s a word.
Scrabble you just make words…
I’ve even used WTF as a word lol
its a game, have fun with it.

yes it is in the dictionary
ya
Yes it is as it refers to a four wheeled military vehicle as opposed to JEEP being a trademark reference!
Eugene the Jeep: fictional character in the Thimble Theatre comic strip
its not a proper name
The critter Jeep is not good. Nor is Jeep like the vehicle in my driveway. But jeep is good in that it’s a style of vehicle like the ones used by the army in WW2 and Korea etc. He gets to use it!
Yes, jeep is a type of vehicle as well as a brand name, so it is fine.
A jeep is not a SUV, or truck, or van, or a car. It is a jeep as well as having the Jeep logo. It is both a proper noun and a descriptive noun.
Check an online Scrabble dictionary.
Yes because you can find it in a dictionary
Glad to help!
Well, referring to the vehicle, it is and it isn’t acceptable.
Jeep, as used as the brand (proper noun) isn’t.
Jeep, as a type of vehicle (regular noun) is acceptable.
Definition:
"A small, durable, general-purpose motor vehicle with four-wheel drive and a quarter-ton capacity, used by the U.S. Army during and after World War II."
no, you can’t use it
I say you can’t. I remember playing with my dad and you couldn’t use names, but maybe that was house rules?
it is absolutely ok. it is not always considered a proper noun.
