Is there a safe way for a type 1 diabetic to gain weight?
I know we shouldn't be over weight but I have always been very thin. I'm 5'8" and 111ibs. If is wasn't for my breasts I would look like Olive Oyl. Is there a way to put on weight safely?
I keep my blood sugars as close to a person without diabetes would. My Dr. said not to gain too much but if I wanted to gain 5-10Lbs that would be fine and to try more fat in my diet from nuts and olives, which I have, but nothing yet.
@Miz Lamb-great idea about the thyroid check. I haven't thought of that.
Ask your doc. Just the mere consumption of fruits and veggies will help in the long run.
Insulin causes weight gain! It is the fat packer hormone of the body!
So! eat more carbs and inject to cover them and you should gain some weight! Do this very carefully as with anything else.
But at that weight and height, what is your thyroid doing?? Is it being normal or just as bad as your pancreas? Hyperthyroid causes low weight and inability to gain. Hypothyroid causes weight gain and inability to get it off. Also have your Parathyroid checked.
There is a reason why Endocrinologists are not called Glycemiologists! They also treat other endocrine system problems and conditions.
