In the Popeye cartoons, who’s child was Swee’Pea?
Was Olive Oyl Swee'Pea's Mom? Popeye and Olive Oyl weren't married, were they, because there seemed to be a love triangle between her, Popeye and Bluto/Brutus. A child out of wedlock seems pretty progressive for a children's cartoon back then. Was Swee'Pea adopted? Abandoned? Kidnapped?
According to the folklore of the original comic book, Swee'pea was left on the Oyl family's doorstep.
SweePee was an orphan left for Olive Oyl to take care of,surprisingly enough he grew up and now is the coreoghrapher for boy bands!
well, don't know how true this is but I stumbled across it this morning:
"Q.9- What's the deal with Swee'pea? Whose kid is he anyway?
First, he is neither Olive nor Popeye's child. There are two versions of his origin. In his first appearance, he is sent as protection from the Demonians who want him because of a group of moles on his back that look like the number 7 on a pair of dice. The other story is that he has been made Crown Prince of Demonia and an uncle wants to kill him so he is again sent away. In any case, he appears to be Demonian in origin and is adopted by Popeye. He first appears on July 28, 1933."
