If Popeye and Olive Oyl weren’t married, where did Swea’ Pea come from?
And why did Olive keep flirting with Bluto? And why was he called Brutus, too? I'm so confused! Did Wimpy EVER pay for those hamburgers?

Those are questions that have caused me to lose sleep for years! If only one of these answers can bring me some closure after all these years, I may be able to sleep through the night and lead a normal life….Damn…..now I’m hungry for a hamburger!!!
Olive Oil is a HO !
um you can have a child and not be married. so use your imagination.
The sweet stork brought her. Oh and Wimpy is still gonna pay next Thursday!!!
I think Sweet Pea was Olive Oyl’s nephew.
wimpy and alice the goon had a love child
Sweat Pea was Olive Oil’s baby brother
Well…..it’s a cartoon!!!!!!……it’s makebelieve you weren’t actually supposed to look that far into it. Get some rest……it’ll all go away in the morning…..lol jks
Swea pea was Olive’s nephew! That’s why he was always with her win the toon began!
Brutus: a redundant name!
Thepayment for the burgers: the same place where the payment for the spinach, and the toons themselves came from!!!
It’s a toon, it’s not supposed to be logical!
Swea’ pea was Olive Oyl’s nephew.
Olive was fickle.
Brutus was acutlly NOT bluto, but was given a similar look and attitude to continue the big bully against the little guy scenarios in the later (70’s) catroons. And I do believe that at one point ? Wompy DID pay for at least SOME of those hamburgers, having been given money by Bluto in an attempt to trap Popeye. And yes it WAS on a Tuesday that he paid him.
And how distrubed should I be that I know all of that?
Ummm, it’s a cartoon, dude.
He was left on Popeye’s doorstep. He’s not an orphan, one of his parents has tried to get him back but they were written out of the comic strip because readers wanted Popeye to have Sweepea. Bluto was a combination of all Popeye’s villains from the comic-strip that was used for the Fleisher cartoons. After a while he was used in the comic strip but because, the character was thought to be the property of the cartoon studio they used Brutus, instead. Wimpy will kindly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger, Today. Tuesday never comes.
Swee’Pea was abandoned on Popeye’s doorstep by his mother, so Popeye adopted him. Bluto was also called Brutus. (I think that got started in the tv or movie appearances, and carried back into the newspapers.) Wimpy borrowed money from Roughhouse (the guy who owned the cafe) to pay him back for all the hamburgers that he mooched…! So, no, he didn’t really pay for them.
you should watch the movie with robin williams and shelly duvall. sweet pea was left on the doorstep and they took him in. olive oil was supposed to be engaged to bluto, but ran away because she didn’t want to - she flirts with him because she’s afraid for popeye. he’s called brutus - not sure. and no, wimpy never pays for the hanburgers as far as i know.
the movie is really good too - it’s a musical… from the 80’s. it has to be good! robin williams (in a comedic role, where we love him)!
Sweet Pea was an Orphan that olive oyl found Olive kept flirting with Bluto cause she could Wimpy would never have to pay for hamburgers he is wimpy
I have no idea. Maybe Sweet Pea was the result of Olive’s promiscuity. She always did flirt with Bluto too much.
