I am being forced to dress up as a cartoon character for a themed costume party. What should I go as? ?
And I would prefer a male/female duo, cuz me hubby is being forced too, by punishment of social pariahship. Already thought of Popeye and Olive Oyl. (That's our favorite so far.) Some over-eager friends are already going as Homer and Marge, and Fred and Daphne from ScoobyDoo.
(Can I hear some Gagging noises for adult Halloween costumes???)
Glurck!
Do-It-Yourself-type ideas, por favor. I live in Brazil and can't just run down to the local party supply store.
(kckyaahck.)
Jessica B...thanks for the link.
LilMizNitemare...I love cartoons too! I just hate looking at overgrown, less-than-toothsome human versions of them. Usually the females are sluttier than necessary too. Hence the gagging reflex.
Brraghhk!
You are truly a woman after my own heart. Beeeaaaouggghhh indeed.
Edit: Doing my very best for you in an area in which I have absolutely NO talent - how about Barney and Betty Rubble. A dressing gown with a rope, some sandals and some hair gel should take care of your husband - if not, calico is cheap and you only need to buy 90cm wide, double it over and sew up the sides, then attack with scissors. Probably better if your husband is not actually in the costume when you cut the jags along the bottom unless you have definitely finished your family. A blue sun dress with a halter neck (could be skirt and top) and matching hair bow and high heels could take care of you. If your husband chooses to carry a baseball bat as a extra, just make sure he doesn’t get arrested for carrying an offensive weapon!
bam bam and that girl from the flintstones
Storm and Wolverine
Lucy and Charlie Brown
Spiderman and Mary Jane
Superman and Lois
Snow White and Dopey
Mickey and Minnie
Roger and Jessica Rabbit
Fred and Wilma Flintstones
The Incredibles
Batman and Robin
your hubby can go as Carmen and you can go as mr.Poo ( south park cartoon)
how about mrs. pacman and pacman or aladdin and jasmine or maybe peter pan and wendy (green tights are hilarious)
spongbabe and patrick
here is the link to the spongebabe one:

It sounds like your not really into this whole thing, but if you really have to do it might as well find a couple that is really fun to be.
Some ideas:
Jack Skellington and Sally
Marge and Homer Simpson
Mickey and Minnie Mouse
Are just some of the ideas that I got from an about.com page talking aobut cartoon couples.
Here are some off the top of my head:
Fred & Wilma Flintstone
Barney & Betty Rubble
George & Jane Jetson
Papa Smurf & Smurfette
He-Man & She-Ra
Mickey & Minnie Mouse
Donald & Daisy Duck
SpiderMan & Mary Jane
Superman & Lois Lane
Batman & Catwoman
Bugs Bunny & Lola Bunny
Casper the Ghost & Wendy the Witch
Happy Halloween
I love the Popeye and Olive Oyl idea.
Beetlejuice and Lydia (there were cartoons once)
Gomez and Morticia Addams (once were cartoons too)
Those are the only cartoon couples I could think of that would be easy DIY.
cut a bunch of holes in a sheet, throw it over your head, and viola! you’re charlie brown in his ghost costume. give the husband a blanket and a sheet with only two holes and he can be linus.
How about Penelope Pitstop and Dick Dastardly old girl this would prove to be most amusing, not only would your husband be able to sport a magnificent moustache (Although I assume he already has one being a gentleman) but you could find yourself tied to a train track as he twirls it menacingly, a splendid end to the night. Tip top.
