Do you remember the old Popeye cartoons?
What was Olive Oil's deal? Was she a player or what? And where was Sweet Pea's parents? Questions and more question re: that cartoon.
Here is Popeye's very first cartoon. Enjoy!!!!

I thought Sweet Pea was her nephew. I don’t recall what happened to them just that he was an orphan. I loved pop eye.
I saw the cartoon. Now I remember where I first saw Betty Boop. Once again down memory lane, thanks.
Yes, I remember them and my Son loved them.
I model myself after Popeye…"I yam what I yam."
i loved popeye..felt sorry for sweat pea…he was sort of homeless man that olive oil had a herion chic body before it was popular!
Sure do watched them most days after school. From 1958 to 1965. By the way, 21 years in the Navy honorably retired, And I yam what I yam,
Poppy to all 4 of my Grandchildren. Thanks for the smile!
I like the song that went with Popeye cartoons. Remember the phrase in there, "I yam, what I yam?" I am what I am. I don’t remember thinking of Olive Oyl as a player, or her parent’s, however.
Yes i do and i don’t see what popeye and blotto saw in her. Good luck.
yes, and she was good natured..Sweet Pea was Popeye’s nephew, wasn’t he without it ever showing his real parents???
I used to watch Popeye all the time. As for Ms. Oyl, she just loved being getting attention from the guys. I really think she had a thing for Popeye, especially when his muscles popped up after eating a can of spinach. I think Bluto was so smitten with Ms. Oyl, because he thought she’d choose him over Popeye. Let’s not forget Wimpy. I wonder how much money he borrowed for all those hamburgers he bought? Did his payday ever come?
As for Sweet Pee, I believe he was adopted. In the movie, Popeye, starring Robin Williams, Sweet Pee, was found in a basket by Popeye, on his doorstep.
Thanks for sharing the link. I really enjoyed it.

Yes and even as a small child I could feel the vibs between the guys and Olive!!! As I look at it now it wasn’t exactly the best cartoons for kids!!
Well the real story about Sweat Pea is that he is Whimpy’s son. Yes, Olive was a slut. Back then you just didn’t talk about those things so children just magically appeared and there were no innuendos used .
Popeye’s real deal with the spinach had more to do with erectile dysfunction but again, they never talked about that then. Olive Oyl is just hoping to snag a sugar daddy to take care of Sweat Pea and since both Bluto and Popeye seem to buy her gifts and are vying for her attentions, she plays them both.
She’d go after Whimpy for support but he’s just a pan handler out begging for money for his "burger fix". And he has never "paid back" the next Tuesday for what he ate today. Ask Olive Oyl.
I sure do!!! In fact my baby name was Sweet Pea because I used to crawl around everywhere and get into trouble. LOL
Yes I remember Popeye cartoons.
Never liked that cartoon much. Too violent. I have always shied away from that sort of thing. Hated the stooges for that reason, too. What is funny about slamming someone in the head?
