Do you find the truth of cartoons shocking?
ok i was looking up looney tunes on wikipedia and on boskos picture show (1932) he says "you dirty f-word." and then i saw a site of banned cartoons and i saw one called porky pig swearing and i didn't belive it so i looked it up on youtube and he bangs his finger with a hammer by accident and he said "son of a" (about to say the b word) then on that site i saw a popeye cartoon called never kick a girl.
do you find this shocking? (these cartoons were in the 30's)
well then why was looney toons and popeye made for kids
not really.
I love to watch back the shows i loved as a kid and see all the more adult references included in them.
Subtle enough not to raise any questions with kids but obvious enough for parents to get a giggle.
EDIT: these shows were made for kids but they had to put some stuff in to appeal to the wider audience. Adults are more likely to watch shows with their kids if it will interest them as well.
Things were different back then as you didn’t have the PC brigade jumping on every show the minute it featured something the slightest bit inappropriate; it was laughed off and ignored as there were far worse problems at the time.
Nowadays, we have the credit crunch and terrorism but people will ignore all that the minute someone makes an inappropriate phonecall to a celebrity’s slutty granddaughter, or says the F-word before 9pm cause you know, those are the real problems in life
In the old superman cartoons of WWII, the bad guy in almost every episode was Japanese. They also constantly used a racial slur for the Japanese when talking about them.
Times were different then.
